Description: The Pinnacles hike in the Kauaeranga Valley, Coromandel Peninsula is one of NZ's best kept secrets. This spectacular 5-7 hour walk transports you back in history to the 1880s-1920s when the logging of the magnificent kauri tree was an important industry in the area. Today, as you head up the Billy Goat track the remains of the tramlines that used to transport the trees are still visible. The awesome views, beautiful surrounding bush and nature and the challenge of the walk make this a great day out. Why not take advantage of the tranquility of the Valley and the other walks in the area and stay a night in the DOC Pinnacles Hut or on one of their designated campsites. Accommodation and shuttle service packages are available from Sunkist International Backpackers, Thames. The Kauaeranga Valley is also home to the 'Sleeping God Canyon'. Full-on, full-day canyoning trips regularly take place in the valley - 'Awesome!'
