Wellington horse trekkingDescription: Spectacular veiws of the South Island and of the Wellington harbour and city. See the Cook Strait in its natural moods, seeing big rolling sea swells crashing onto rocks or dispersing on the beach. On its calm days seeing shoals of fish or the odd seal frolicking in the bay or Dolphins cruising in or out of the harbour. Learn a bit of history of the surrounding area,eg; the light houses where the Wahine disaster occured or enjoy the native bush ride.

Country Club Riding Academy Limited

Description: Escape the city on horseback at Wellington’s longest-established equestrian centre. The Capital’s horse and pony community since 1963, the Country Club Riding Academy (CCRA) is just a 20 minute delightful drive from central Wellington.

Located in the heart of Ohariu Valley, it’s a country retreat on Wellington’s doorstep. With over 600 acres of beautiful farmland to ride over, the CCRA horse, sheep, and cattle estate welcomes both beginners and experienced riders.

The CCRA offers the following:

  • Horse trekking. (Hours: 9-5 Sat/Sun and school holidays)
  • Horse-rides in our outdoor sand arena for children
  • The Horseman’s Centre, a speciality horse and pony supplies shop which offers professional advice. (Hours: 9-6, 7 days a week)
  • Saddleback Café. Fully licensed, offering a fantastic brunch, lunch and kids’ menu. (Hours: Thurs, 10am-5pm, Fri 12-6pm, Sat/Sun 9am-6pm except Public Holidays)
  • Saddleback Cabin. A purpose-built country conference venue. Team-building exercises include claybird-shooting, golf driving and petanque
  • Grazing and leasing
  • A creek with ducks and tame eels to feed
  • We welcome people of any age and riding experience to the calm of the country in this secret pocket of Wellington – all within a very easy drive of the city centre.

Open 9.00am – 6.00pm, 7 days a week except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
