We are a caring, relaxed, fun filled family, who have catered for international guests over a number of years now. Our farmstay is located on the Canterbury plains, close to Christchurch City in the South Island of New Zealand. Description: As our name might suggest, we are located in the foothills of the Canterbury Plains with panoramic views of the stunning Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand. Our place is 3 hours drive from Kaikoura, 3.5 hours to Mt Cook and just 4.5 hours to Queenstown along the Inland Scenic Route 72.

We are only just over one hour`s drive from Christchurch International Airport and only 15 minutes from the well known Mt Hutt Ski Area. We are also an easy 15 minute drive from Methven, a town boasting a wide array of cafes, restaurants and plenty of things to do.

While the Mount Somers Walkway (two-day) and Mount Somers sub alpine circuit (two-day) are a must for the serious hiker, the Mount Somers Conservation Area features a variety of walks, varying in time from one hour to five hours. On The Farm: We farm Deer and Beef Cattle with a small flock of Sheep. You can hand feed a Deer, Sheep or Cow and experience bottle feeding lambs in the Spring. During the summer months stock is moved around the farm frequently, and dipped and drenched in the yards, our dog Jess assists us with this task. We moved here from the UK in 1986 and simply love our lifestyle. Every season the farm offers you a colourful display of flora. The highlights of spring are the many daffodils and cherry blossom, summer with red hot pokers and many roses, the autumn with the red toadstools, red oak leaves, winter with the yellow flowers of the wattle trees.

On a clear night the clarity and brilliance of the stars, the sight of the Southern cross and the Milky way is unbelievable. The reason for this is the property location 250 meters above sea level with very little light pollution.

Wouter and Ellis Stegehuis who are in their early fifties have spent many years creating a warm and welcoming country home. The deck overlooks the property, a small lake and the hills. Ellis has traveled extensively before settling down to New Zealand. She was trained as a Social Worker and both she and Wouter enjoy meeting people from different cultures and walks of life. Wouter works full-time on the farm. We specialise in traditional and contemporary New Zealand cuisine using vegetables and herbs from our own property and produce from the local area.

The many friendly animals and lovely views make this an ideal retreat for a relaxed holiday away from home. For many children the stay on our farm has been the highlight of their holiday.

On The Farm: Meanderine specialises in breeding donkeys, and 1st and 2nd generation labradoodles (dogs) although we also breed a wide variety of other animals including cattle, sheep, ducks, geese, doves, pigeons, guinea fowl, pheasants and about 12 different varieties of rare breed chickens. We also have cats. We have over 500 animals when we include the goldfish! Guests are welcome to help with hand feeding our many tame animals. All throughout the year young animals are being born.
We have 4 ponies and 7 horses which we use for horse trekking and or horse riding lessons. We cater for beginners and for experienced riders who want to include trotting and cantering. Longer trips of 2 to 4 hours available on request.
