Description: Explore Milford Sound above and below. The Milford Deep Underwater Observatory is nestled in Harrisons Cove, beneath the Pembroke Glacier, amongst the towering mountains of Fiordland National Park.
Here, visitors descend 10.4 metres down beneath the sea. Once down in the viewing chamber people are able to view, from within a metre, intimate and undisturbed life in a vibrant underwater community. Courtship displays, territorial disputes, raising young and real life dramas unfold as nature's cycles come and go.
Operating since 1995, the Underwater Observatory is only accessible by boat. It can be incorporated as part of your Milford Sound cruise (Mitre Peak, Fiordland Travel or Red Boats) or take the Underwater Observatory shuttle. See rare undersea species (black and red corals, crinoids, zoanthids, anemones, sponges) in their natural environment.
Prices: $45 per adult (shuttle boat) or various Cruise & Observatory packages ranging from 65 - $92.
Season: All year - 365 days of the year
